Nokia N96

The Nokia N96 is a Nokia smartphone released in the Nseries range of products – it was revealed as the official successor to the Nokia N95 and was publically announced a the inaugural Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, in February 2008. The handset began to be shipped in September of the same year, and consumers in Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific were the first to get their hands on the device.

The American and Chinese version of the smartphone were released shortly after, and the general UK release for the N96 was October 1st, however, citizens in London were treated to a release date of September 24th, as the device went on sale exclusively at Nokia’s store on Regent Street, and at Heathrow Airport’s Terminal 5. The Nokia N96 is a GSM/WCDMA dual mode portable multimedia computer for Americas markets. The handset itself can be used for connecting to mobile broadband using WLAN or HSDPA (3.5G), which means even faster downloading speeds than 3G. The device also has the capability to find directions and locations with an integrated A-GPS and included mapping system. As for photography, the N96 comes equipped with a camera capable of taking photos at 5.0 megapixels (with auto-focus).

However, the most impressive functionality in the N96 lies with multimedia, and users can enjoy video and music playback on the 2.8” QVGA screen, boasting a 16M colour display, at 240 x 320 pixels. Videos such as film trailers, actual films, or YouTube videos can be enjoyed with crystal clear clarity, and music can be played back through built-in stereo speakers. Additional features include UPnP, Bluetooth 2.0 technology (for sharing multimedia files with friends), and a USB 2.0 High-Speed connectivity, therefore users can connect their N96 to their personal computer and upload the latest ringtones, wallpapers, and videos to their device in super quick time. Also, Nokia have loaded the N96 with their all-new ‘QuickOffice’ application, which opens all Microsoft Office documents (whether they be Excel, Word, Powerpoint, or Publisher files) on the smartphone, and there’s an updated version of Nokia’s Video Centre, which can be used to view and edit images and video that have been taken using the 5 megapixel camera. Tired of bad reception?
Is bad reception getting you down? Are you tired of being shown those vague reception maps when you sign up for a new cell phone, especially when you find out a week later that they are definitely not accurate? Are you tired of asking your cell phone representative whether you will be able to get coverage at your parents house, only to find out that you have to stand at the top of the stairs to get two bars?

Cell phone contracts vs. pay as you go
What is the main difference between a pay as you go plan and a cell phone contract? Well, for pay as you go, you don’t have to sign your name to anything! If at the end of the month you don’t feel like paying for more minutes, then you have no obligation to do so. However, you are also sort of on your own as far as plans go. A lot of pay as you go phones are getting more and more plan-oriented, but you still end up with a basic common denominator… the more you talk, the more you pay.

Unlimited minutes - the holy grail of cell phone plans
You have all seen the ads. It started when one company offered the unheard of - UNLIMITED ANYTIME MINUTES FOR A SET FEE EVERY MONTH! Sure, that would be nice - except it was $100 per month! Dream on, that kind of plan is for movie actors, rockstars, and corporate CEOs, right?

Do cell phones emit too much radiation?
We live in a world today where virtually everyone owns and uses a cell phone. Not just adults, either. A lot of kids have their own cell phones too! It is actually getting normal for most teenagers to have a phone too and not just any phones! There are all kinds of phones, from flip phones, to smart phones, to handsets - cellphones are as hot as they have ever been, and continue to grow in popularity. But is it possible that cell phones are perhaps not as safe as we have thought? It is no secret that cell phones emit radiation, but isn’t it true that the radiation is not strong enough to hurt anyone?
